Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has emphasized the importance of independence of election commission and accountability, strictly distinguished from victimization.  

He was talking to a delegation of senators who called on him in Islamabad. The Prime Minister said Pakistan wants peace with all its Neighbours and any negotiation will have to keep in view Pakistan’s sovereignty. He said the 17th amendment has distorted the constitution and we have to correct it and strike a balance of power among various pillars of the state. Overall political situation in the country came under discussion in the meeting and the prime minister underlined the world’s support for the democratic process in Pakistan. Various government policies also featured in the meeting including the development of neglected Areas like Balochistan. The Prime Minister told the delegation that on his initiative special economic package has already been unveiled for Balochistan.
The senators apprised the prime minister of the problems faced by their areas.
